The opulence of fine tableware derives from the history of many cultures. Take for instance, a pierced spoon. Back in the 19th century, green peas were boiled as a delicacy, and then skimmed off the top of the pot. An ostentatious spoon with openings for the water to strain from were commonly used for retrieving the peas and for serving at the table (bet you didn't know that!). When you serve your guests at the table, you also share a bit of antiquity.
